Apia moves into Kurnell to help tornado-affected customers

Apia's storm recovery efforts are in full swing with assessors and claims staff on the ground in Kurnell helping tornado-affected customers get back on their feet.

Personal Insurance CEO Gary Dransfield said: "We've been given the green light from emergency services to access customer properties in the Kurnell region and have begun assessments."

"This is a crucial step in the recovery process. It means approving the claim, assessing the level of damage to the home, determining the required scope of works and allocating repairs," he said.

Mr Dransfield said Apia was supporting the worst affected customers with emergency funds and accommodation and was doing everything to have homes assessed in Kurnell before Christmas.

"We understand that these are very challenging times for many residents and businesses who have been affected by the storm, particularly given it's the holidays.

"Our goal is to work as quickly and as safely as possible in order to meet the needs of our affected customers in a timely manner," he said.

In addition to assessors, Apia's Customer Response Team – a mobile insurance claims office – will be operational at the Kurnell Recovery Centre from today and over the weekend.

Located at the Kurnell Community Centre, Captain Cook Drive near Marton Park, Kurnell, the Customer Response Team will allow Apia customers to lodge their claims in person and access essential disaster response services.

"Having our team on the ground means customers can talk to us face-to-face and get the claims process underway, even if they are still without power or access to their home."
