26 June 2007 - Insurance payments speed up recovery

Insurance company Apia has already paid out over $1,500,000 in claims to customers for storm and flood damage. The company has thousands of customers in the Central Coast and Hunter Valley Regions.

The company has offices in Newcastle and Gosford. It also has a major operations centre at Gosford. Additional staff have come from interstate. There are currently over 60 staff in the local area available to work on storm and flood claims.

Apia State Manager Graeme Browne says the company is managing over 5,500 claims.

“We understand how important it is for people to get their lives back to normal as soon as possible. That is why we have brought in additional staff to assist with the management of claims.“ Our policies cover both storm and flood damage. So we have had no issues with confusion about coverage.

“We have already settled a number of claims. We have also provided emergency funds for food and accommodation. “Payments so far are over $1,500,000 ”, he says.

Apia has put its national network of branches and staff throughout Australia on alert to assist with claims management. Apia customers affected by the NSW storms can ring 13 50 50 at any time. They can also visit the Apia offices at 17 Darby Street Newcastle and on the corner of Mann and Donnison Streets in Gosford.
