Whether we’re young or old, as Australians we love to stay active. Sport is pretty much ingrained in the Australian way of life, but we don’t have to be participating at a competitive level to be enjoying the benefits of regular exercise. These benefits aren’t limited to our health either, there are also emotional and social advantages such as stress reduction and improved confidence.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 50% of Australians aged 50 and over participate in regular sport or physical recreation. But while a lot of us are out there swimming, running, casting, hiking and generally having fun, we may not realise just how beneficial these individual activities are for us!
