Old Bar local returns home to find himself a winner

Old Bar resident Nicholas Sourry did not expect to find such good news waiting for him when he returned home with his wife following a trip to visit family on the Gold Coast recently.

Mr Sourry opened his letter box to find he’d been drawn as the major winner in the Apia “Experience of a Lifetime Competition” with the option to choose either a Peregrine holiday to the value of $30,000 or $25,000 cash as his prize. The competition was open to customers who took out an insurance quote with Apia between 8 August and 31 October 2010.

Mr Sourry said he was blown away to discover he was the lucky winner and that the $25,000 was an unexpected but very welcome present from leading over 50s insurance provider Apia, right in time for Christmas.

“We picked up the mail from our post office box on the way home from our family trip and I opened the letter from Apia thinking it must have been to do with our insurance policy,” Mr Sourry said.

“I read about halfway down the page then had to stop and start again at the beginning. I remember thinking, this can’t be right. But sure enough I checked the answering machine and there was a message on there from Apia confirming we’d won the competition.

“My wife and I just couldn’t believe our luck. I’ve always been a bit of a punter but I’ve never won anything like this before – it’s just so exciting.”

Apia’s Executive Manager Distribution, Craig Dingle said the Experience of a Lifetime Competition was very well received by Apia customers and he was pleased Mr and Mrs Sourry would be able to enjoy their prize right in time for the summer holidays.

“Apia would like to congratulate Mr Sourry on his win. As a leading seniors’ insurance provider we recognise the importance of a lifetime of experiences and hope this prize money will give the Sourry’s the opportunity to enjoy a few more amazing experiences of their own,” Mr Dingle said.

Mr Sourry said they had been shopping around and looking to purchase a new lounge suite for their home for a while and that would be the first thing they’d use the prize money towards.

“We’d also like to help out the family and will make a donation to the Queensland Flood Appeal to support people affected by the recent flooding across the state,” Mr Sourry said.

“Then maybe we’ll take another holiday. We’d love to visit the Kimberleys region,” he said. “It’s probably the one place in Australia we haven’t visited yet.”
